Environmental law is multifaceted and complex. After all, our physical environment is influenced by multiple factors. Every project is different and presents the entrepreneur with new legal challenges. Environmental law is dynamic and many European and national legislative changes follow each other in rapid succession. A huge system change in environmental law has been announced for many years: the Environment Act.

Where (business) activities affect the environment, a permit, dispensation or other permission from the government is often required. An environmental permit for building, departing from the zoning plan or for the environment, a nature permit or water permit. The government also checks whether you comply with the rules. You may have to deal with enforcement by the municipality, province or water board, usually carried out in practice by the environmental department. Criminal enforcement by the Public Prosecution Service of environmental offences is also more common.
